My Journey
Hi! I am Amreen – The Proud Owner of Umaa!
I am bursting with excitement to join you on this incredible journey of becoming a new mother!
I understand that amidst the overwhelming happiness, your mind is swarmed with millions of questions and concerns revolving around becoming a MOTHER!
Now, allow me to open my heart and share my personal voyage through the marvelous realm of motherhood—a journey that gave birth to the very essence of Umaa.
Navigating the whirlwind of postpartum experiences for both my children, I found myself grappling with sleepless nights and the constant question of what to eat. During this transformative period, I recognized mothers' shared struggles everywhere. Through heartfelt conversations with my mom's friends and my family's incredible mothers, I discovered that my experience was not an anomaly.
After giving birth, women often find themselves overcome by an insatiable hunger. While recovering from childbirth, our bodies require additional nourishment and calories to heal and provide for our little ones.
The idea behind Umaa, my passion project, was unwittingly conceived during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To support my sister-in-law, I sent her a carefully curated postpartum care package. It included healing herbs, comforting nursing tea, a rejuvenating face mask, and delectable snacks. Witnessing her overwhelming joy upon receiving the package inspired me to continue spreading love and support. In 2022, I extended the gesture to another dear friend, who was equally touched by the thoughtful gift. These incredible women resided in different states, and while I couldn't physically be there for them, I wanted to offer unwavering support as they embarked on their unique motherhood journeys.
In today's society, the postpartum period often witnesses a shift in focus from the mother to the baby. As the world gathers around to see, hold, and care for the adorable newborn, the essential needs of the new mother can unintentionally be neglected. Deeply rooted in the belief that mothers deserve comprehensive postpartum care and undivided attention, I founded Umaa. I aim to restore the spotlight on the postpartum mom, ensuring she feels an overwhelming sense of love and support.
By doing so, I strive to empower her with confidence, nurturing her through the remarkable journey of motherhood.
What does Umaa mean?
Umaa (pronounced OO-Maa) is a name used to honor the Hindu goddess Parvati. Parvati symbolizes power, energy, nourishment, harmony, love, beauty, devotion, and motherhood—the very essence of what we celebrate at Umaa.
Moreover, Umaa serves as a reminder of the mother within each of us—U-MAA (You-Mother).
